Our sincerest condolences on learning of your Dad's passing. Frank & Rita were great next door neighbors. We enjoyed our dinners and conversations with them over the years. We always enjoyed meeting Frank at the mailbox to discuss whatever, and Rita's direct, humorous comments bring a smile still to this day. We miss them.

Megan and family, Frank is under the care of the Christian Brothers once again I am sure. He and I were the only two known graduates of La Salle University at the Landings and chatted often about our days growing up in the Philadelphia area and taking public transportation to La Salle at the end of the Subway line at Broad and Olney. St James HS and La Salle College HS were rivals in our Catholic Athletics league, we bantered on our high school days also. So to an old Marine Veteran from an old Army Veteran we bid Frank a very fond farewell. Rita I am sure still "attends Mass" and now with Frank once again. McLaughlin, Francis James

Francis James McLaughlin died at his home on October 15, 2017, after a long illness. He was 85 years old.

Frank was a long-time resident of both Bel Air, MD, and Savannah, GA. He was born and educated in the suburbs of Philadelphia. After his graduation from La Salle University he married Rita Scully and then volunteered for officer training school in the United States Marine Corps. He served as a lieutenant and later as a captain in Okinawa and Korea. After the Marine Corps, Frank was employed as an Administrative Engineer for the Martin Marietta Company in Baltimore. In the 1960’s he made a professional change to the investment business and had a successful career as a stockbroker until retiring from Shearson in the late 1980’s.

Frank and Rita had seven children: Timothy, Terence, Dennis, Margaret, Matthew, Elizabeth and Edward. Frank had four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, who gave him great joy. Sadly, he was predeceased by his wife Rita, daughter Elizabeth and grandson Kevin.

Frank’s family is ever-grateful for the kindness shown him during his final illness by his caretakers, friends and family.

A private graveside committal rite is planned for a future date at St. Francis Church in Abingdon, MD.
