Dear family of Edith Lanier, I'm so sorry for your loss.Death is not wat God had in mind for humans. Romans 5:12 shows why death came about. However Romans 6:23 shows how we have been Redeemed through the blood of Chrust.

It was a privilege & joy to have known Edith. She was a delight to have volunteered with for several years at Hospice and to have spent personal time with as well. Edith was a bright star whose light will linger on all who met her. When I think of her it will always make me smile and I give thanks to God that our paths crossed.

So very sorry for your loss. Isaiah 25:8 says “He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces.”

D K, ,

I'm so sorry for your loss. Death is not something that was intended to be experienced by humans. The bible holds out a beautiful promise of a ressurection at John 5:28,29. We can see our loved ones again very soon. I hope this scripture brings you some comfort as it has done for me in the past when I experienced loss. Please visit jw.org for more comforting information on this subject and so much more.

The Lord finally obliged Edith’s last request on the morning of November 19, 2018, 21 days short of her 93rd birthday. She had been saying for a while now that she was ready to go. Each time I spoke to her, she would tell me that she was ready to go, but she would also say that she loved her family more than life itself. While I have heard this sentiment elsewhere, it was never so believable as when she said it. Edith was a strong-willed woman. A friend described her as hard headed and feisty. If she liked you, you knew it. She would give you her opinion without even having to ask her. If Edith said she loved you, well, you better get used to the idea because her mind was made up.

Born December 10, 1925 in Bulloch County to Carl and Ronella McElveen Iler, she was the youngest of 6 children. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Wauweese (Delmas) Lanier of Savannah, Elwin (Lillian) Iler of Savannah, Hautense (Ray) Trapnell of Statesboro, Elise (Gerald) Bacon of Pembroke, Jessie (Ernest) Buie of Statesboro, and her best friend and adopted sister Chieko Harada. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Hobbs Lanier.

She is survived by daughter Candace Lanier, grandson Patrick King, great grandsons Isaac and Emmett King, many nieces & nephews and great nieces and nephews whom she adored. She is also survived by her brother and sister in law, Dr Ellison (Melinda) Lanier.

Following the examples of her parents, she grew up appreciating the importance of hard work and giving back.  She earned her associates degree from North Georgia College in 1946. After graduation, she moved to Savannah and worked as secretary to the manager of GMAC.  In 1955, she, along with her oldest sister Wauweese and her husband Hobbs, started Lanier Collection Agency which they ran until retirement in 1987. She was past president of the Exchangette Club of Savannah, Georgia Collectors Association, and Oglethorpe Business and Professional Women. She was a member of the Savannah Golf Club and PEO. She served on the board of Wesley Community Center and Hospice Savannah. She volunteered at Hospice Savannah for over 20 years.

She loved fishing, dancing, playing golf and bridge, putting together jigsaw puzzles and her Lazy Boy recliner.  She said she enjoyed the best of both worlds, summers in Franklin, NC with the mountain views and the rest of the year on Turners Creek on Wilmington Island.

The family would like to thank the staff of Summer Breeze for their loving care. The family would also like to give special thanks to long time friend and caregiver Mattie Faircloth Scichilone. Her last years were better because of you and your love for her.

The Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Wilmington Island United Methodist Church.

The Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Wilmington Island United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hospice Savannah or to the Altar Fund at Wilmington Island UMC.
