Douglas Glen Rangeley, Jr., 77, of Savannah, Georgia died Monday, May 21, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents Douglas Glen Rangeley, Sr. and Sarah Brinson Rangeley, grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Brinson of Waynesboro, Georgia and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Rangeley of Bluefield, West Virginia.
He is survived by the love of his life since childhood, wife Sydney Harden Rangeley; son, Douglas Glen Rangeley, III of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter Leslie Melissa Shultz of Winston Salem, North Carolina; step-daughters Ann Smith of St. Louis, Missouri and Toni Wynne of San Diego, California; three grandchildren Sydney Smith of St. Louis, Missouri; Reid Daniel of Winston Salem, North Carolina; Addison Rangeley of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law Annette Harden Wetmore and Clair Wetmore and his longtime companion, his Labrador Retriever, Trip.
Doug was a member of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church and Savannah Golf Club. He was a past member and golf chairman of Vestavia County Club in Birmingham, Alabama. Doug as a member of the U.S. Steel Industry national speaker bureau for three years.
After Catawba College and University of Georgia class of 1962 where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity, he was a golf professional at Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio and The Country Club of Pepper Pike, Ohio. In 1965 he started a 38-year career in the steel industry beginning with Republic Steel and ending with Lukens Steel and Bethlehem Steel. At time of retirement, he was Regional Sales Manager responsible for sales in the south and southwest.
After spending 45 years in Birmingham, Alabama, Doug and Sydney relocated to The Landings in Savannah in 2011. But wherever he lived, Waynesboro, Georgia was the home of his heart.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, GA.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Christ Child’s Nest, Isle of Hope United Methodist Church, 412 Parkersburg Road, Savannah, GA 31406 and/or The Humane Society for Greater Savannah, 7215 Sallie Mood Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
