OUR PRAYERS ARE WITH THE FAMILY.

RON AND SUSAN WEINER, POOLER, GA

Judy and Mark, My heart and prayers are with you at this sad and difficult time. Don was such a gentleman and a true friend - He will be missed by so many of us.

Ann Lemley, Savannah, GA

Don was very special to us. He will be missed on our Asbury pew - a prince of a guy. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Joan Hester Byrd and Wendy Ciccodicola, Savannah, Georgia

I grew up in Rivers End and knew Don for many years, his brother Billy and I were the two amigos and was always into something. I know Don had a very successful career and I know he made his family proud. My sister Camilla went to school and was very fond of Don. May the Lord give you peace.

charles ernest bailey, savannah, ga

Judy and Mark, Even to this day, when I walk into a bank, I think of Don. Who else would loaned a 17 year old kid $600.00 to buy a car! With notice of course that he would call my Dad if I was ever late. He was Mr. Savannah Bank. I remember helping Judy and him move into yet another house. I knew then, that I did not want to be in the moving business. The Masonry Business was so much easier! And of course my Dad and I built fireplaces in several of the new homes. He taught so many of us the right way to get started in our financial lives. Don touched so many lives, he will be missed by all of us...TP

Tony Petrea, Tybee island, GA

Mark and Judy. So very sorry for your loss. Don was a great man with a kind heart and was always ready to help people. I go way back with him. He opened my first bank account, got me my first bank loan and my first credit card. He took time to explain how important it was to keep them all in proper order. He will be missed by everyone who he has touched their lives. May he rest in peace with God's love.

Daley & Andreia Brown, Richmond Hill, Ga

DearJudy, So sorry for your loss. Remembering the good times when we were young, Love and blessings, Carol

Carol Cramer , Richmond Hill , GA

Dear Judy, we will miss Don immensely for it’s not often that we get to know someone who possessed so much charm, character, and sense of responsibility. However, there are no profound or clever words that can accurately depict what an immense person Don was! His undying love and devotion to you and Mark depicts the man we have known, respected and loved. Don and I first met when we were teenagers in junior high school. One of the most treasured time May and I had, was with you and Don on our trip to Granada. Those were the days of fun and folly. These and other memories of Don will help to sustain you in the years to come. We love you and God bless. Wayne and May

Wayne and May Disher, Skidaway Island,

Judy, I am grateful to have gotten to know you and Don over the last several years. Your love for each other so apparent, easy to believe you were childhood sweethearts who made it for the long term. My heart is heavy for you at this timebut I know you will garner strength from your friends, your family, and God to make it through this difficult time. Love, Jody

Jody McGovern , Savannah , Ga

My sincerest condolences go out to your family, it's never easy losing someone in death. May you take comfort in God's promise found at Revelation 21:4, which says "he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” This verse brought me peace when I experienced loss, I hope it can do the same for you. May the memories you have give you strength during this difficult time.

Jae Mckenzie , Savannah , GA

Judy, Don was such a kind man with the gentlest soul. It was evident the love he had for you & his family. His sweet smile will be truly missed. May you find comfort in knowing he is rejoicing with Terri. Gods speed.

Donald (Don) Amerson

Donald (Don) Amerson, 76, died Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Memorial University Medical Center.  Don was born in Nunez, GA but lived most of his life in Savannah.  He was the son of Oscar Hubert Amerson and Sue Claxton Amerson.  Don graduated from Commercial High School in 1958 and started his banking career in 1960 with Savannah Bank & Trust Co. and retired from The Savannah Bank in 2014.  During Don’s life, he was involved in many organizations and served on many boards.  Most recently, Don was treasurer of the Savannah Alee Shriners’ and was a member of the Clown Unit and Jesters.  He also served on the Board of Directors for Southside Fire Department.  He was a member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church and often served as an usher.   Don was a long-time member of the Savannah Golf Club where he and his dear friend Archie Davis always had their special table saved for them at lunchtime.  Don’s passion was playing golf and spending time at his country house with his son, Mark.

Most of all, Don would want to be remembered as a devoted husband, a wonderful father, grandfather and friend to many.  Don was often referred to as a “Southern Gentleman” and always treated everyone he met with respect.  While in the hospital, his grandson Jacob talked to his Papa about the fun times with sweet memories and asked him to share them with his Mommy when he sees her in heaven.  The family would like to thank the caring people in the Heart Vascular Bldg. at Memorial University Medical Center.  Sarah, Emily and Jeff took such good care of Don.  The compassion shown by these nurses made the last few days of his life as comfortable as possible.  Also, to our special friend Jack Ward, who showed his love for Don in so many ways.  Don was a loved man who will be dearly missed.  Other than his father, he was preceded in death by his daughter Teresa (Terri) Lank and brother, O.H. Amerson (Billy).

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Judy Martin Amerson, son Donald M Amerson (Mark), mother Sue Bunger, brother Roger Amerson (Dianne), grandson Jacob Lank, granddaughter Elizabeth Lank, son-in-law Keith Lank, sister-in-law, Betty Burkel (Bill), sister-in-law Janice Amerson and several nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. till 12:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Asbury Memorial UMC, 1008 E Henry St, Savannah, GA 31401. Interment will be private.

Remembrances may be made to the Alee Shriners Morris Slotin Fund, P.O. Box 14147, Savannah GA 31416 or Asbury Memorial UMC, 1008 E Henry St., Savannah, GA 31401.
