May you find comfort in knowing that Miss Clara your dear loved one is safe in the memory of God, who will remember every detail about her, and bring her back to life again. (John 5: 28 & 29)

Valerie, Lawrenceville, GA

My deepest sympathy to the family of Clara, Plasms 90:10 "The span of our life is 70 years or 80" if one is especially strong. But they are filled with trouble and sorrow; Theyquickly pass by and away they fly. Death always come to soon and leaves the sting of heartaches and pains Paslms 90:12 let it teach you as it taught Clara how to count your days so that you may acquire a heart of wisdom . You will see her again in the resurrection when Jesue call her from the memorial tombJohn 5:28,29

Dr. Paula Cleckler, As I read the beautiful tribute to your mother, one thought kept coming to mind; “They just don’t make them like this anymore.” Wow! It sounds like she was a precious gem, and I am sure she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about her…the descriptions of her reminded me of my sweet and spunky grandmother, who had the greatest influence on my life. I’m certain you are a mixture of the noble character of your mother, along with all of the wonderful things she believed in and stood for. I bet you made her equally as proud as she did you. Although my heart is heavy knowing you’ve endured such a great loss, I feel positive your mother is rejoicing at the Throne of God. I pray He gives you that peace that surpasses all understanding throughout the days ahead.

Megan Davis, Rochelle, GA

Her glorious journey has just begun. Life holds for all different facets. Earth is only one. Her journey will be long. Always listen and feel your Mom's song! Philippians 3:20-21, Romans 14:8 Kitty Russell: "Matt, you can't account for everything that happens to people who touch you. You know, I learned along time ago, there are some things in this life that you just accept the way they are. U.S Marshall Matt Dillon: "That's pretty deep for a Redhead." Kitty Russell: "I'm a pretty deep Redhead!" GUNSMOKE 1955-1975 Love And Strength! Earl & Vicki Rogers Steven Rogers Robyn Rogers Stevenson

She was, to me, a woman of great grace. Even seeing her in the hospital, she was kind and gracious, considerate of others. I did not have the pleasure of years knowing her, but I know the time I had was a treasure. Sincerely, Diana Shelley

Clara Jones Nysewander – SAVANNAH – Clara Nysewander passed away September 29, 2018, having recently celebrated her 95th birthday with her family.

A native of Daisy, Georgia, she moved to Savannah at 17. She studied at Draughon's Business College, taught typing to the troops of the Mighty Eighth Air Force, and then, while working in the insurance industry, met Bill Jones. She married Bill in 1943, and as their family grew to include five daughters, family became the center of her life. As the heart of a bustling household, she modeled fairness, compassion, and graciousness. Her expectations for herself and her girls were always high: if you can make a 99, you can make 100! So were her energy and effort in managing the wardrobes of five daughters, from school clothes to Easter outfits complete with white patent leather Mary Janes and gloves, and finally to bridal gowns—along with the myriad details of five weddings.

She excelled at logistics, arranging schedules and transporting all of her brood to school, piano and dance lessons, and sports activities. She cooked and baked, with love and excellence that produced unforgettable Thanksgiving and Christmas spreads, usually with her unmatched cheesecake, pound cake, or favorite chocolate pie.

Clara was a member of First Christian Church, and following Bill's death and her marriage to Cecil Nysewander, became a member of First Presbyterian Church. At First Christian, she and Bill sang in the choir and passed along to their girls their love of music. Clara served as PTA president, grew roses, won countless Garden Club contests, and earned numerous blue ribbons in neighborhood Christmas decoration contests. She was an accomplished duplicate bridge player and never lost her competitiveness. Even recently, in simple hands of Crazy Eights, she did not like to lose!

She had many pets—terriers, basset hounds, a lhaso apso, and poodles. At home in recent years, she was rarely seen without her teacup poodle. Sugar Plum sat on her lap or in the basket of her walker, and slept beside her nightly. "I love this little dog," she often said, and that little dog undeniably loved her.

She loved westerns, especially Gunsmoke; opera, especially Madame Butterfly; and piano compositions, especially Chopin's. She loved poetry, and one of her favorites, It Couldn't Be Done by Edgar Albert Guest, represents the core belief she taught her daughters. In challenging times of their self-doubt, she locked eyes with them and confidently said, "Oh yes you can."

In recent years, Clara battled a host of illnesses with determination and resilience that amazed all who knew her. She was assisted in her fight by her dear, longtime, physician, Dr. Kathy Chu; caregivers Lyndsey Cowart, Edna Williams, and Sherita (Tiny) Mobley, and Barbara Green; and her daughters. With her passing, she leaves a legacy of love and devotion to her family. She remains forever in their hearts, a remarkable woman and extraordinary matriarch.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Penton and Eva Smith; her sisters, Lola Lauff and Corene Carson; her husband, William North Jones, and her second husband Cecil Nysewander. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Paula Cleckler, Ed.D. (Jim), Judy Fogarty (Mike), Donna Roberts, M.D., (Arthur), Becky Martin (Matt), and Terri Lamb (Bill); grandchildren William Cleckler, Paul Cleckler (Courtney); Rebecca Thornhill (Chad, M.D.), Jennifer Martin, Katherine Martin, Colin Fogarty, and Sara Jane Fogarty, and step-granddaughters, Elizabeth Rakis (Anthony), Alison Wester (Earle), Margaret Nysewander, and Melissa Nysewander (Shelly); thirteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be her sons-in-law and grandsons. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. and a funeral service at 2:00, at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey.
