Mr. Buddy, Kelly, Kim and Kevin: My prayers for you to be held in God's arms through your family and friends as He comforts you and brings you peace during this time of grief. I know that if you could keep Mrs. Betty here on earth you would. But I also know that you would not want her to suffer any more. May she be rejoicing and dancing on streets of gold in her eternal home!

We were so sad to hear of your mothers passing. Our hearts are full of love and prayers for your family as we remember how wonderful your mother was to so many . Your mother was "Mimi" to hundreds of children who came through those nursery doors , and they never forgot where their Mimi was . Kids always stopped by to see her and catch her up on what they were doing . Betty had a big heart , a big since of humor , and enough love and compassion to make us all feel special . We will miss her more than words can say , but we will celebrate your mothers life for all the joy and love and laughter that she shared with us on her journey. May God Bless your family and bring you peace in the days to come . With Love In Christ ,

Diane and David Shuman, Savannah, Ga.

Betty Wallace Blackston, “Mimi”, began her eternal life on Monday, October 9, 2017. Born in Camden Arkansas on August 8, 1941, she was the daughter of Nettie L. and the late Clinton A. Wallace.

Betty lived most of her life in Savannah, attending Savannah High School. She grew up loving to dance. In her teens, she never missed an opportunity to get all dressed up and head out to one of her favorite spots to listen to music and dance the night away. She could often be seen at the “Bamboo Ranch” in Garden City.

Betty spent her young life in the Bona Bella, Isle of Hope area until she married and moved to the “other end of Ferguson Avenue” to “Montgomery”. That is where she raised and nurtured her family and made lifelong friends.

Betty was an active part of her children’s lives. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, was involved with the PTA, and was always there supporting her children’s many activities and interests.

Betty was preceded in death by her younger sister Iris Wallace, her father Clinton A. Wallace, and her beloved Granddaughter Ashlee Kraft.

Betty is survived by her mother and her husband of 56 years, Albert W. “Buddy” Blackston, two daughters, Kim B. Kraft (Hal), Kelly Blackston-Cail (Robert “Corky” and his sons, Brian and Matthew) and one son Kevin W. Blackston (Angela). She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kyle, (Amy), Clint, Emily, Gage, and Caroline as well as two great grandchildren, Ella Brooks and Wright Kraft.

A natural caregiver of small children, she was a lead teacher in the “First Things First” program of The Isle of Hope United Methodist Church, for fifteen years. Through those years, she has touched the lives of many. Children of all ages would come by her room to give their hugs to “Mimi.” It was her love of children and nurturing of others that led her to her two “adopted daughters” Frances Moore and her son Sam and Beth Windom Stewart and her children Allison, Jonathan (J.P.), and Sarah Palmer. Frances, Beth and their children are loved dearly and are truly part of our Family.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 12, from 5:00 till 7:00 PM at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with a Celebration of Life Service on Friday, October 13, at 10:00 AM at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church. There will be a Private Burial to follow.

Remembrances: Isle of Hope United Methodist Church for either “Christ Child’s Nest” or The Ashlee Kraft Memorial Golf Tournament or to Hospice Savannah.
