My sincere sympathy to Shirleen(a very dear friend) and Jimmy in the lose of your Mom. She was a very dear lady who helped me in a tough part of my life. I had some hard times and Mrs Lindsey would call me or Shirleen would call me...she had cleaned out her clothes closet and would ask me to come and see if i could use and items...i most certainly did....i still have a very nice white sweater Mrs Lindsey gave me year and years ago...i still wear it and always have compliments and where did i get it...i would reply ...from a very sweet and dear angle...she will be missed. Love, Debbie

Bertie Carleen Lindsey

The Angels took Mama to Heaven at around 10:20 PM on Good Friday April 14 2017. We were so blessed to celebrate her 90th birthday with her on Wednesday.

Mom was born on April 12th 1927 In Thomaston Georgia and was the daughter of Carlton C, and Bertie Mae Mullis. Growing up, her family moved around to various locales in Georgia during the depression years so her father could provide for the family. They finally settled into residence in Eastman Georgia, Dodge County.

Before World War II, she met James T Stevens of Cadwell, Georgia. They corresponded while he was in the Air Corp and were married after the war. They had 2 children. After moving to savannah, they were members of Ardsley Park Baptist Church. One constant in mom’s life was her faith. She was a very active member of the Fidelis Sunday school class. She was a witness of her faith to her children in her everyday life and continued to encourage them in their faith after they left the nest.

In Later years, she worked outside the home as a sales representative at Sears in the jewelry department and then she worked at Sarah’s Hallmark Card store at Chatham Plaza.

Later in her life Mom married James Q. Lindsey of Savannah. They were both active members at Ardsley Park and were involved with several church ministries. They were very happily married until his passing in 2008.

Mama Is survived by Her Daughter Mary Shirleen Lindsey, Her Son James T. Stevens Jr. (Linda), Grandchildren Yvette Warnock (Gene), Michael Stevens (Kristin), Michelle McDonald, William Stevens (Sara Beth), Suzanna Lindblad (Aric) and 3 ½ Great Grandchildren Sydney Stevens, Lily McDonald, Wyatt Stevens and “?“(Baby on the way), Sisters Delores Waddick and Bobbie Treadwell (Carey).

Visitation will be on Thursday April 20, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Hodgson Memorial Drive Chapel with funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens following the service.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
