Anne Morris Mooney, 79, died Thursday, October 19, 2017 in Savannah, GA at Spanish Oaks Retreat after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Anne was born on April 3, 1938 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Frank Edgar Morris and Esther Corey Morris and grew up in Clearwater, FL. She attended Clearwater High School and was graduated from Duke University, where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority, in 1960 with a major in Spanish. She married Timothy C. Mooney soon after graduation on June 11, 1960, started married life in Atlanta, GA and moved around the country as he pursued his career. She and Tim retired to The Landings on Skidaway Island in 1993 and moved to the Marshes on Skidaway Island in 2011.

Ann was a very outgoing person who enjoyed entertaining, dancing, crafts, baking, sewing and raising golden retrievers. Over the years Anne was active in her children’s schools and her churches, where she was always singing in the choirs. In Savannah she was a member of Wesley Monumental UMC and the Alpha Sunday school class. As a choir member, she organized international choir tours for the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, Byrn Mawr, PA and Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church to various countries including Austria, Czechoslovakia, England, Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland. In Savannah, Anne sang in the Symphony Chorus for many years and also taught English as a second language at the Richard Arnold School.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard Corey Morris. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, her children, Christopher Mooney of Pueblo, CO and Tracy Mooney Schaeffer (David) of Carmel Valley, CA and her grandson, Samuel B. Schaeffer of Carmel Valley.

The family gives special thanks for the staff of Spanish Oaks Retreat and Hospice for their loving and professional care for Anne over the years and particularly in her final days.

There will be a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church on Abercorn Street (Calhoun Square), with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall. A private inurnment will be in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to either the music ministry at Wesley Monumental UMC, 429 Abercorn Street, Savannah, GA 31401 or to the Spanish Oaks Foundation, 8510 Whitfield Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406.
